A woman walked in and said, “Can you make me a Nugent?”
“No,” I said. “Can you tell me what’s in it?”
The woman rolled her eyes, got up, and walked out.
To whom it may concern… a Nugent is (and I looked it up) – 2 ounces of white rum, 1/2 ounce of lemon juice, 1 tsp of superfine sugar, and 1/2 an egg white. Shake very hard with ice and strain into a martini glass.
For starters, I’ve been doing this for a while… I’ve NEVER had a guest ask for a “Nugent.” Second, why the hell would I want to make something that clearly sounds revolting and not in the least bit appetizing? Third, if you’re going to come in and ask for an unusual drink, try to have an idea what goes in it before flipping out when the bartender doesn’t know how to make it. I mean… an egg white. Wouldn’t that ingredient kind of stick in your brain??
